Prof. Dr. Evren Balta Recognized with "Women Who Make a Difference" Award

Prof. Dr. Evren Balta, Head of International Relations Department at the Özyeğin University, was chosen as one of the leading women leaders in man-dominated sectors in Turkey in the Women Who Make a Difference Awards Program organized by MediaCat. Held annually by MediaCat since 2013 to honor successful and inspiring women in the business, brand, and creative world, the Women Who Make a Difference awards ceremony took place for the 9th time this year under the main sponsorship of MediaMarkt Turkey.  

The awards were presented to 10 successful women in their respective fields during an awards ceremony organized as part of Brand Week Istanbul on November 11. In the inaugural category of academia, the award was given to Prof. Dr. Evren Balta, Head of the International Relations Department at Özyeğin University. In her awards speech, Prof. Evren Balta remarked: “The fact that we think we are not successful, even when we are, is a normal and common reaction to being a woman in a culture fraught with gender discrimination. Perhaps, my biggest chance is to work at a university with women in leadership positions. I would like to express that being part of an institution that paves the way for women leaders and puts no barriers before free thought also gives me wing. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Özyeğin University for creating a positive, supportive, and collaborative work environment that is not gender blind, and all my colleagues for making Özyeğin feel like home for me over the course of the past 4 years. I share my award with them and all women academics who keep on producing, working, and teaching despite the challenging conditions of the pandemic in the past year.”
